Description
This item is a hand-carved wooden wall mask depicting an elderly smiling man in the Chinese style, frequently associated with depictions of Shou Lao, the God of Longevity. The mask is constructed from a single block of wood with a dark reddish-brown stain and a polished finish. The carving features high-relief facial expressions and deep, incised linear detailing throughout the beard and headdress. The eyes and teeth are accented with inlaid material, likely bone or shell. This piece is characteristic of mid-20th-century East Asian decorative export wares. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the surface.
