Lot 61:
Description
This lot features a framed photomechanical color print, specifically an offset lithograph, after an original painting by British artist Heywood Hardy (1843-1933). The work is titled A Chance Encounter as printed on the label affixed to the matting. The composition illustrates a traditional English country scene with a man and woman on horseback stopping to converse with an elderly man and a young girl outside a thatched cottage, surrounded by several dogs. The print is mounted within a multi-layered mat and set under glass in a wood frame with a gilt inner fillet. There is no evidence of a hand-signature or edition numbering. A coin is positioned at the base of the frame for scale.
Condition report:
The print appears to be in good condition with no visible signs of fading or paper discoloration. The matting shows evidence of foxing and moisture staining, particularly along the lower margin. The frame exhibits minor surface scuffing and wear consistent with age.
