Description

A Roman silver denarius issued under Emperor Augustus, dating to circa 2BCE-4CE. The obverse displays a laureate portrait of Augustus facing right with the legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE. The reverse features Gaius and Lucius Caesar standing facing each other, each holding a spear and resting a hand on a shield, with a simpulum and lituus between them. The reverse legend identifies the type as C L CAESARES. This issue is cataloged as RIC 207 and is historically noted for its circulation during the early first century. The coin is struck in silver and displays dark gray toning.
Diameter: 18-19 mm.

Condition report:

The coin is in good condition with moderate wear to the design elements. A significant portion of the flan, approximately 20 percent, is missing due to a large edge chip or break. This damage has removed a section of the legend on both the obverse and reverse. Dark gray toning is present across both surfaces.
