Lot 212:
Description
A pair of molded resin figurines depicting Budai, the Laughing Buddha, also known as Hotei in Japanese tradition. These decorative pieces are produced in the style of traditional East Asian netsuke or okimono carvings. The figures are constructed from a composite material finished with an ivory-colored patina to simulate carved bone or ivory. The robes feature cast incised geometric and floral patterns highlighted with a dark wash to accentuate the design and provide an aged appearance. Each figure is accented with gold-toned paint on the necklaces and specific garment details. Both figures are depicted in traditional standing poses, each carrying a large sack over one shoulder. No maker marks, signatures, or reign marks are visible on the base or body of either figurine.
Height: approximately 3 to 4 inches.
Condition report:
Both items are in excellent condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The darkened areas and surface variations are part of the intentional antiquing process used during manufacture.
