Description

This lot consists of two figurative sculptures produced in the style of West African Akan (Ashanti) and Benin traditions. The pieces are manufactured from cast copper alloy, likely brass or bronze, using the traditional lost-wax casting method. The larger figure is a stylized anthropomorphic representation featuring a multi-pointed headdress, protruding almond-shaped eyes, and decorative raised bands around the neck and torso. This figure is depicted holding two curved objects, possibly ritual staffs or horns, and is mounted to an integral square base. The smaller figure is depicted in a crouched position, appearing to be engaged in a manual activity such as grinding or drumming, and is mounted to an integral rectangular base. Both sculptures exhibit a dark brown patina with visible green oxidation and verdigris in recessed areas. The surfaces show characteristic rough textures and remnants of the casting process. No maker marks or inscriptions are present on either piece.

Condition report:

The items are in good condition. Surface wear, oxidation, and minor pitting are present, all of which are consistent with the casting process and age. There are no observed structural breaks or modern repairs.
