Description
This collection consists of several vintage metal cases and cosmetic compacts dating from the mid-20th century to the early 21st century. Included is a square gold-toned case with an engine-turned plaid pattern and a rectangular silver-toned case featuring engraved foliate and floral scrollwork. A square silver-toned commemorative case is engraved with the text DIRECT LINE 20 Years of Success 1985 – 2005. The assortment also includes circular gold-toned compacts, one with a brown textured leather insert in a crocodilian pattern and another with a fine engine-turned guilloché pattern and a rectangular cartouche, in the style of makers such as Stratton. The items are manufactured from gold-toned and silver-toned metals and are equipped with hinged lids and various latch mechanisms. One circular compact has an illegible mark within the lid cartouche.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition. All items show signs of use consistent with age, including light surface scratching, minor scuffs, and areas of oxidation or tarnishing, particularly on the silver-toned commemorative case. The leather insert on the circular compact exhibits minor wear around the edges. Interior mirrors and compartments have not been inspected.
